Fishing, Hunting, & Trapping

Fishing

Commercial and recreational fishing, especially crabbing and sea bass fishing are important to the local economy.

The Cohansey Watershed’s lakes and streams are popular with South Jersey anglers.  Fisherman can try their luck catching bass, bluegill, sunfish, carp, Eastern chain pickerel, and stocked trout. In the tidal portion of the river, you can enjoy the day catching crab, striped bass, catfish, shad, and perch.

The Upper Cohansey River and Mary Elmer Lake are regularly stocked with trout by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Fish & Wildlife. In the middle of October, 2012, Mary Elmer Lake was stocked with 170 trout.

Hunting & Trapping

The Cohansey Watershed’s rich marshlands support a variety of wildlife.

Migrating geese and ducks that pass through South Jersey attract hunters.

Our prolific population of muskrats also provides pelts and gourmet meals for local trappers.
